In this article, you will discover 8 useful tips to motivate yourself mentally both in your personal life and at work.

If you lack motivation, you are not satisfied with the results you achieve and you are looking for advice to move forward in your personal or professional life, I advise you to continue reading this article.

Here is a brief summary of my tips:

1 – Become aware of your deepest motivations

2 – Focus on what you can control

3 – Start from the final result and break down the actions to be implemented.

4 – Protect self-esteem and build self-confidence

5 – Experience your success in advance

6 – Take action, learn from your mistakes and continue to progress

7 – Spend time to develop yourself

8 – Find pleasure in your actions

1 – Become aware of your deepest motivations

You can’t feel motivated if you don’t know what really motivates you.

I’m not talking about standard motivations like most people might give you to explain what motivates them to take action.

If you want to improve the quality of your life, you need to dig deep within yourself to understand why you want to put so much effort into your life to achieve what is important to you.

If you often don’t feel motivated enough, it’s because you don’t know yourself well enough.

To discover your deepest motivations, start with the one you think is your most important current motivation to reach your goal.

If, for example, your goal is to increase your income by 30% in the next 6 months, then ask yourself the following questions:

Why do I want to make more money?

How will it change my life and the lives of my loved ones?

Then, write down your answer and continue to question yourself until you find a motivation strong enough to get up with plenty of energy every morning and ready to pursue this goal.

Alternatively, you can imagine that you have already reached your goal and wonder about your next goal. Chances are that reaching your first goal is just the beginning of a much bigger life project.

2 – Focus on what you can control

The vast majority of people are hypnotized and psychologically dominated by a range of automatic and predictable behaviors.

To get out of this cultural and media hypnosis to which we are all exposed, it is essential that you remember that you are much more powerful than you think.

But if you continue to focus on events over which you have no control, you will not be able to feel motivated every day.

An effective way to reclaim your thoughts, and therefore your freedom, is to focus your physical and mental potential on situations that are entirely up to you.

You won’t be able to do this right away. But if you practice the habit of conscious focus, you will begin to feel more and more serenity and self-confidence.

The world will no longer feel like a dangerous place for you and your loved ones. Your life will no longer be a routine but an adventure full of opportunities.

By focusing on what depends on you, you will regain control of your life.

You will control your fears and you will live in expectation of positive experiences.

You will attract to yourself everything you need to blossom and develop.

3 – Start from the final result and break down the actions to be put in place

Instead of following the classic process of defining a goal and then planning the actions needed to reach it, I suggest you proceed in the opposite direction.

Imagine that you have already reached your goal, then think:

  • how it has positively changed your life and the person you have become
  • how people who have been positively influenced by your actions
  • to all the obstacles you have overcome
  • the best strategies that have helped you get closer to your goal in a short period of time
  • what you have learned from your actions

If your thoughts generate some unpleasant emotions, try to understand why and if necessary, modify your goal to make it consistent with your most important values.

If you only feel pleasant emotions, then identify the gap between your current situation and the ideal one.

Then take regular action to bridge the gap and get closer to your dream day by day.

Feeling the emotions associated with having already achieved your goal will help motivate you to take action and make it easier to find effective strategies for success.

4 – Protect your self-esteem and strengthen your self-confidence

Protecting self-esteem and building self-confidence requires protecting yourself from negative events, negative people, information on TV or on the internet.

You need to create a barrier between yourself and the outside world in order to draw your energies from within.

You must remain the creator of your existence and this requires that you are not affected by the influence of external events that can disturb your creative potential and vitality.

Develop the habit of creating day by day within yourself the life you wish to experience on a daily basis.

You need to follow behavioral routines that help you follow your own path independently of external factors. This is all the more essential if your motivation is still low.

You need to draw the life you want to explore in a protected environment with negativity and fear.

You have the responsibility to use all your resources, life experiences, skills, creativity and innate qualities to remind yourself that you are responsible:

  • for the results you achieve
  • the emotions you experience
  • the decisions you make

You have a duty to get out of your comfort zone to create the life you dream of and the future that belongs to you.

You must learn to draw energy from your past successes and transfer it to your present to change your future.

You must remember that you are the actor, the director and the ultimate judge of your destiny.

You must recognize the excuses that keep you away from your life and replace them with the certainties that allow you to make the invisible visible.

You must constantly take actions that allow you to believe more and more that what you dream is within your reach.

If you wish to further develop your self-confidence, you can take advantage of the expertise of a coach to regain your self-confidence.

5 – Experience your success in advance

An effective way to motivate yourself is to experience your success in advance.

You can be happy to think about your success and the impact it will have on your life.

But in order for this experience to be truly complete, you need to use your emotions to live this reality virtually.

To achieve this, I advise you to combine visualization and neurolinguistic programming.

Close your eyes and practice visualizing your success.

If you are a hearing person, i.e. you prefer to process your experiences rather than from what you hear, think about what you will hear around you, your internal dialogue, the speeches of those around you, etc.

Take the time to imagine how your actions have changed the lives of others, how you have inspired them, how your life now matches your dreams.

To amplify the positive impact of your visualization, make strategic changes to your experience. For example, if you build events from what you see and your visualization is an image, try turning it into a video or bringing it closer to you.

By using mental imagery and acting on certain perceptual parameters at the same time, you will be able to experience your success in advance. Therefore, the pleasant emotions you experience will become a later source of motivation to more easily and effectively take the actions that will allow you to reach your goals.

6 – Take action, learn from your mistakes and continue to progress

Nothing will change in your life if you don’t act. In fact, understanding what motivates you is only the beginning of your change.

What really matters is your ability to take action, learn from your mistakes, and continue to progress despite any other disruptive factors that may impact your motivation.

If you find excuses not to change, your life won’t change!

If you want the life you dream of, take action and go back to learning mode.

After each action, ask yourself the following questions:

What have I learned?

How can I use my learning to progress?

You won’t get the results you want right away, but if every day you take a few moments to focus on your progress and use what you’ve learned to your advantage, nothing can stop you!

The most important thing is to create and maintain this new habit that over time will allow you to achieve everything you want.

7 – Take time to grow

You can’t motivate yourself mentally if you don’t spend some time every day to improve yourself.

This is the best habit you can create to feel fulfilled and have a successful life.

Before you start your day, or generally when you have the opportunity, take time to play sports, meet inspiring people who influence you positively, read books that interest you, watch a video that allows you to learn something, buy a course that allows you to acquire the skills you need to grow as an individual or professionally, and so on.

If you don’t allow yourself a little time for yourself every day to live your life to the fullest, to progress and to do what you love, you won’t be able to motivate yourself mentally and worst of all, you won’t be happy.

So, don’t make excuses for not using a little of your time to experience positive emotions, create a life that lives up to your ambitions and discover the unique person you are.

Once again, the best way to do this is to create a new habit and respect this precious time that is essential to your well-being and success.

8 – Find pleasure in your actions

According to neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, dopamine controls our perception of time. The timing and amount of dopamine we feel is how we carve out our experience of time. By learning to access reward through effort and action, we can increase our dopamine levels and therefore our motivation.

This means that instead of focusing exclusively on your mid- and long-term goals, you can increase your motivation by finding pleasure or some kind of reward in the execution of the task.

It is therefore your ability to enjoy certain tasks, even if they are not pleasant, that will allow you to stay motivated and maximize your chances of achieving your professional or personal goals.
